OCFF Supports Youth with 2014 to 2015 Grants

The O’Neill Area Community Foundation granted two organizations funds during their grant period of July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015. The two awardees were Girls on the Run and Holt County Economic Development.

Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Nebraska offers after-school programming that combines friendship, fun and training for a 5K to promote healthy lifestyles and self-respect in third- through sixth-grade girls, according to their website. In O’Neill, the OCFF granted GOTR $550 to put towards the girls’ tuition costs, which lowered the average cost of participating from $140 to less than $40. Not only did this program encourage young girls to be healthy, active and fit, but the curriculum also included a service project that benefitted their community.

Holt County Economic Development was awarded $1,643 for a project titled, “Unleash Your Super Powers.” The project was a pilot program administered in the O’Neill School District to focus on the strengths of all administrators, teachers and staff, as discovered through completing Clifton StrengthsFinder in Year 1. In Year 2, StrengthsFinder assessments were given to the 4th and 9th graders. The school used this project to focus on staff personal development as well as create a common language between the students and staff while discovering their natural talents.

The mission of the O’Neill Community Foundation Fund is to enrich the quality of life in O’Neill both today and in the future. To learn more about the OCFF, visit www.oneillcommunityfoundation.org or “Like” them on FaceBook.
